What Chime accounts do I have, and which cards come with them?

What you see in the app depends on which card setup you have:
  • Chime Card: one Available balance for spending
  • Credit Builder: separate Checking Account and Credit Builder balances

Chime Card (Secured Chime Visa® Credit Card)

Card colors: Members with Chime Prime status can choose an onyx Chime Card at no cost or upgrade to a titanium-colored metal Chime Card for a fee. Members with Chime Plus and Chime status currently receive a free evergreen plastic card. A titanium-colored metal is currently not available for members with Chime Plus status, but may be offered in the future for a fee.

When you open a Chime Card, you get a Chime Checking Account, a Secured Deposit Account, and a Chime Card account for your secured Chime Visa® Credit Card.

When you add money to your Chime account, that money is moved to your Secured Deposit Account and shown as your Available balance in the app. You can spend that balance with your Chime Card for credit purchases or your Chime Visa® Debit Card for debit purchases.

You will also have a virtual debit card in the app and can request a physical debit card in the app . The Chime Card may not work at merchants that only accept debit cards or cash. To use money from Savings, first move it to your Chime account. Ontime payments are reported to the major credit bureaus and may help build credit. Results vary by credit behavior and scoring model.

Chime Checking Account (Chime Visa® Debit Card)

Card Color: White

Your Chime Checking Account comes with the original white Chime Visa® Debit Card. In the app, this card is connected to your Checking Account.

Like the Chime Card, you can use this debit card to:

  • Make everyday purchases (in-store, online, and in apps)

  • Withdraw cash from ATMs

  • Access money funded by direct deposit, cash deposits, or transfers

Your Checking Account balance is the money you can spend with your debit card. To use money from your Savings Account, first move it to your Checking Account.

Credit Builder Account (Secured Chime Credit Builder Visa® Credit Card)

Card color: Light Green

Credit Builder is a legacy product. New Credit Builder accounts are no longer available. If you already have Credit Builder, you’ll keep your Chime Checking Account, Credit Builder Secured Deposit Account, and Credit Builder account for your secured Chime Credit Builder Visa® Credit Card.

Each account has a different purpose:
  • Your Credit Builder Secured Deposit Account holds the money you move over from Checking to back your Credit Builder spending.
  • Your Credit Builder account is the credit account tied to your Credit Builder card.

Your Credit Builder spending limit is based on how much money you move from Checking into your Credit Builder Secured Deposit Account. That is the amount you can spend with your Credit Builder card.

You can use your Credit Builder card anywhere Visa credit cards are accepted. In the app, your Credit Builder account is separate from your Checking Account. Your Chime Visa® Debit Card remains active for debit purchases from Checking.

On-time payments are reported to the major credit bureaus and may help you build credit. Results vary by credit behavior and scoring model.

Chime Savings Account

Associated card: None

The Chime Savings Account does not come with its own card and can’t be used directly for purchases or ATM withdrawals.

With a Savings Account, you can:

  • Move money between your Checking, Chime Card, Credit Builder, and Saving accounts in the Chime app or on chime.com

  • Earn interest on your savings balance
