Get paid early and qualifying direct deposits

Get Paid Early. When Chime receives a direct deposit, it makes that money available immediately – which may be up to two days before your scheduled pay date. How early depends on when your payer submits the payment file. Early access isn't guaranteed every pay period, and your first deposit with Chime may not arrive early while your payer updates their records.

If your deposit doesn't arrive two  days early, it should still land on or before your scheduled pay date. Common reasons early availability doesn't happen on a given cycle:

  • Your payer submitted the payment file on the scheduled pay date rather than in advance

  • The deposit amount or account details changed

  • A bank holiday shifted your payer's submission schedule

  • A payroll system issue occurred on your employer's end

  • It's your first deposit cycle with Chime

What counts as a qualifying direct deposit

A qualifying direct deposit is a deposit by an Automated Clearing House) deposit or Original Credit Transaction (OCT) sent from one of the following:

  • An employer or payroll provider

  • A gig economy platform, via a recurring scheduled ACH or OCT payout

  • A government benefits provider — such as Social Security, SSDI, SSI, VA, or state unemployment

These transactions are not qualifying direct deposits:

  • Bank ACH transfers

  • Pay Anyone transfers

  • Verification or trial deposits from banks

  • Transfers from third-party apps like PayPal, Venmo, or Cash App

  • Mobile check deposits

  • Cash deposits

  • One-time deposits, including tax refunds

  • On-demand payouts from gig platforms (like Uber Instant Pay or DoorDash Fast Pay) typically arrive within minutes, not on a scheduled payout

To set up direct deposit, see:

1Early access to direct deposit funds depends on the timing of the submission of the payment file from the payer. We generally make these funds available on the day the payment file is received, which may be up to 2 days earlier than the scheduled payment date.

The 3.75% Annual Percentage Yield (APY) is only available to members with Chime Prime status, otherwise, either the 3.00% APY for members with Chime Plus status or the standard rate of 0.75% APY will apply.
