Your account balance can go negative from time to time for a number of reasons:
SpotMe covered you
When you overdraw your account and SpotMe covers you, your balance remains negative until your next direct deposit or transfer of funds into your Checking Account. Chime then automatically uses that deposit amount to pay off the negative balance.
A pending transaction or authorization hold settled for a larger amount
Some purchases like gas, hotel stays, or car rentals, start with a temporary hold for an estimated amount. Once the transaction is finalized and the charge ends up being more than expected, your balance could go negative.
A merchant issued a force post transaction
Sometimes merchants will force post a transaction for things like late payments or when a final charge amount exceeds what was initially paid. Contact us if you think your transaction was posted for an incorrect amount.
