Will I get my tax refund early?

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) encourages people to set up direct deposit for their tax refunds. The IRS issues nine out of 10 refunds in less than 21 days. Chime makes your refund available as soon as we receive it from the IRS. Timing depends entirely on when the IRS sends the payment. If you don’t see your refund yet, Chime Member Services won’t have additional information. We recommend contacting the IRS directly for the most up-to-date status. You can check the status of your tax refund on the IRS website using their Where’s My Refund? tool or by downloading the IRS2Go app. If your estimated refund date has passed and you haven’t received your funds, we recommend contacting the IRS for more information.

If you've received your tax refund in the form of a paper US Treasury check, it may take up to 5 business days for the funds to clear and become available after you deposit it in the Chime app using mobile check deposit, provided your tax refund is not rejected or subject to longer delays. To deposit your treasury check via mobile check deposit, you must have previously received a qualifying direct deposit of at least $1.

Timing depends entirely on when the IRS sends the payment, so we can’t guarantee early access to your refund. However, if you’ve enabled push notifications or email alerts, Chime will notify you as soon as your refund arrives.
